We are a South-led coalition reshaping global narratives by powerfully linking sexual and reproductive health and rights with development justice and the right to development through analysis, advocacy, and collective mobilization.

WHY?

Every person and every country should have the means to shape their path to development and fair systems that support them to do so. Advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights is not only a matter of personal freedoms and health; it is also central to development justice, ending inequality, and ensuring that people’s human rights are upheld. Bodily autonomy, gender equality, and development justice are interconnected and mutually reinforcing.

WHY NOW?

Global crises—from COVID-19 to debt and climate shocks—have exposed systemic injustices that shape people’s lives. When financial institutions impose austerity, when social spending is cut, and when inequality grows, sexual and reproductive health and rights are among the first ones to be undermined.

At the same time, opposition to SRHR and gender equality is expanding, well-funded, and strategically exploiting the South–North divide on the right to development. We are facing a crisis.

HOW?

A new narrative and coalition are urgently needed. Led by a cross-sectional group of SRHR and development justice activists from the Global South along with allies, the Global South Coalition is working to change the narrative by powerfully linking SRHR with development justice and the right to development. Its work includes analysis, local to global advocacy, and mobilization of key actors from feminist movements, civil society, international organizations and governments advocating for justice and human rights for all.
